How to become a medical marijuana patient in the state of Colorado?
There are a few steps that you have to take to become a MMR patient in the State of Colorado.  You must first have a diagnosis by a physician. You will need to obtain copies of your medical records, MRI film, X-rays or other material that help you build your case or substantiate your claim for the needing medical marijuana and that contain a copy of your diagnosis.   There are a few forms that you will need to fill out and some fees that must be paid prior to seeing the doctor for your recommendation. If you receive your recommendation you will receive your card in the mail in approximately 6 to 8 weeks, however, the length of time may vary depending on the number of applications the State has to process. A photo copy of your recommendation will serve as your temporary certificate until you receive your permanent one in the mail.

What is the registration fee?
The Colorado department of public health and environment fee is $90 per year.  You will also have some doctor fees that are $95, plus a $5 notary fee.  We do offer discounts for veterans. Your card must be renewed every year.

What are some eligible medical conditions?
Some of the eligible conditions are cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, or a medical condition or treatment that produces for a patient one or more of the following which in a professional’s opinion may be alleviated by the use of medical marijuana; cachexia, severe pain, severe nausea, seizures including those characteristics of epilepsy, persistent muscle spasms including characteristics of multiple cirrhosis.

What are the limitations of my possession rights?
A patient may engage in the medical use of marijuana with no more marijuana than is medically necessary to address a debilitating medical condition.  A registered patient’s use of medical marijuana within the following limits is lawful:  no more than 2 ounces of a usable form of marijuana.

How do I have access to medical marijuana?
Once you have become a registered medical marijuana patient there are several ways to obtain your marijuana.  You could grow your own, and there are several conditions that you must follow very closely if you choose to grow your own marijuana.  What many registered patients have done is register someone as your caregiver.  If you choose to list Colorado Patients First as your caregiver you will receive many member benefits as well as a wide range of medicine to choose from.

What is a Caregiver?
A primary caregiver means a person other than the patient and a patients physician who is 18 years of age or older and has significant responsible of managing the well being of a patient who has a debilitating medical condition.
